Hi all. I will be a solo female travelling to Bangkok on my own and would like to go to Ayutthaya for a day trip. Is it safe to travel alone there? I would like to be able to spend the day enjoying the Park. Thank you for your advice :. Once arrive, you can rent tuktuk to go you around, just negotiate the rate, usually its baht per hour, but nego the price, or you can get a map and rent a bike.
We were picked up and dropped off. Tour was well arranged and included buffet lunch at one of the stops where there was a flea market. There was no pressure to buy anything, just lunch. Cost per person was 1 THB. Now weigh this out against the breakdown of costs given for a do-it-yourself trip.
It is about 3 or baht difference, if not less if all added up and less hassle haggling prices with taxi drivers, then later tuk tuk drivers, waiting for trains, slow travel, time waiting, etc By organised tour, Ayuttaya is about an hour outside of Bangkok, no traffic. If you have to do it yourself, a lot of time will be spent waiting, haggling and you will only get there much later and much stressed, and just a few baht short.
Will this be worth it? As a solo female traveller, it might be safe, but a woman seen haggling for taxi, tuks tuks, etc might put more stress on yourself. There were solo female travellers in our tour, very safe, courteous and no hassles, For the price we paid, I recommend just take an organised tour. This was going by mini-van and returning by minivan. Now minivan or van is what we call an airconditioned Toyota Quantum Nova or similar, which means style, comfort, speed and safety.
I would not advise the do it yourself route as a solo traveller purely for the inconveneience and hassles that you will encounter in the actual arrangements, en-route. All the best. Do it by yourself, travel is very safe in Thailand, you will save money and are not tied to a schedule that might not suit you.
