Katendrecht is where the former red light district of Rotterdam was. It has now been transformed in a area with many little restaurants and where many hipsters and young folks like to live. In the part of Katendrecht close to the Kop van Zuid Hotel New York , some of the old dock complex is being transformed into a hip area. A nice visit on a sunny or not too rainy day. There is a foot bridge from the water taxi station next to Hotel New York.
It is reminiscent of some of the areas in Copenhagen the meatpacking district, but on a smaller scale. The adventurous will explore Katendrecht all the way to the SS Rotterdam which is also a nice and free attraction. I was lucky because I was living in that area as a student in Rotterdam 4 years ago! A different place from the city centre. It is united with the rest of the city through the Erasmus bridge!
A very nice area where you can have a nice walk at the waterfront and the nice squares!!! Also, the area has very nice restaurants and off course Once the city center where sailors would party, rund down in the 's now hip and happening, enough to see and do for a day or two, or three.
Many years ago this was a no-go area in Rotterdam. Full of prostitution. Now an area with nice houses and people love to stay.
